A gap is recommended so water isn't wicked up into the siding from the shingles below (important mainly if wood siding/trim is used). 51) Repair/Replace - The check valve was not working on the sump pump's discharge pipe. As a result of this water in the discharge pipe was flowing back down into the sump tank after the pump shuts off. Recommend replacing the check valve.
